One Winter Morning
Snow like fondant icing at the historic Forth & Clyde canal, Glasgow, Scotland.
The Forth & Clyde Canal canal opened to seagoing vessels in 1790, linking the Clyde and Forth estuaries and the major industrial sites of lowland Scotland.
The canals use locks (large chambers with two sets of gates) to allow vessels to go up and downhill using water and gravity only. The canal today is restored to leisure traffic and is a major wildlife corridor through towns and cities.
