Loch Lomond And The Trossachs

A splendid view north up Loch Lomond from Duncryne Hill. Hard to believe you are only 30 minutes drive from Glasgow's suburbs. A 15 minute walk up Duncryne Hill, a small volcanic plug perfectly positioned in the glacial moraine, is rewarded in style. Loch Lomond and the southern highlands known as The Trossachs were designated as the first national park by the newly formed Scottish Parliament in 2002. About time too! The main snow capped peaks in this frame are (l-r) Beinn Dubh, Beinn Bhreac, The Cobbler (set back in cloud), Ben Vane, (centre) Ben Vorlich and Ben Lomnd ont he right. There are 22 islands in Loch Lomond is 24 miles ong and 5 miles wide with 22 islands. The ones closest in this view mark the Highland Boundary Fault.
